Hosting an Event
FebFast is better with friends. Your friends, whānau and colleagues will be key contributors to your FebFast campaign, so it’s really important to keep them involved.
One of the best ways to do this is to host an alcohol free FebFast event. There are heaps of different ways to approach these, but they’re all opportunities to encourage your guests to donate to your campaign.
It’s win-win for everyone; your guests get to have a great time at the event you host, and you get the joy of making a difference in the lives of those New Zealanders who are most at risk of alcohol harm.
Below are a few ideas for how to host an awesome event:
- A classy cocktail do; string up some outdoor fairy lights, prepare some delicious canapés and invent some tasty mocktails to wow your guests
- Lunch on the lawn; they’re thinking club sandwiches, exotic salads, and non-alcoholic punch. Petanque anyone?
- The alcohol free after-work drinks; if you and your colleagues normally relax with a wine after work at the end of the week, why not suggest an alcohol free Friday where everyone donates the money they save on drinks to FebFast
- A classic kiwi barbeque; grill a few steaks or veggie skewers and wash them down with ginger beer instead of its alcoholic counterpart
Some tips for fundraising at your event
Don’t be shy about asking for a donation. If you’re nervous about asking for money, try giving everyone an envelope as they arrive, pass round a homemade donation box, or open your FebFast page on a laptop or phone.
Make sure you say thanks, and follow-up with a note about how much is raised.
Tell people how the funds will make a difference for young New Zealanders – everybody loves knowing their money will be going to a good cause.
